Designing automation for large-format retail demands balance, spaces must stay bright, adaptable, and energy-efficient while supporting constantly changing layouts.
For IKEA’s showrooms in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, the goal was clear: create an intelligent environment that simplifies reconfiguration, reduces operational costs, and keeps the customer experience warm and consistent.

our system ensures that lighting, HVAC, and control behaviors adapt naturally to both shopper movement and display updates, maintaining consistency, reducing operational cost, and elevating the shopping experience.

Our Approach
We engineered a retail-ready automation framework that blends flexibility with precision. KNX served as the backbone for all building functions, while strategically placed DALI loops and daylight sensors ensured lighting responded naturally to changing ambient conditions.
This allowed store teams to reconfigure display areas without technical intervention—scenes can be updated instantly, zoning can expand or shrink as layouts shift, and brightness levels remain even throughout the shopping journey. HVAC zoning and BMS integration further improved efficiency across both locations.
The result: a smarter retail environment that feels seamless on busy days and cost-efficient after hours.
